“The film market in times of digital, green and social transformation – models of change” is one of the latest projects funded by the Foundation for Polish Science under the Proof of Concept scheme, financed by the European Funds for a Modern Economy (FENG) program. The project is inspired by the search for answers to the challenges facing contemporary cinematography.

The project results were presented during the Roundtable on the future of polish cinematography, held on September 25, 2025, during the 50th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.

The project aims to prepare recommendations for new models of support for the development of the film market in Poland. The guidelines take into account key challenges facing the industry, such as the dynamic growth of digital technologies and streaming platforms, the necessity of implementing ecological production standards, and the increasing importance of social aspects.

Research team

The initiative is carried out with the support of the Foundation for Polish Science under the Proof of Concept initiative, co-financed by the European Union from the European Funds for a Modern Economy (FENG) program.

The research is led by Dr. Marta Materska-Samek from the Institute of Culture at the Jagiellonian University. Her project team also includes Dr. Joanna Sanetra-Szeliga, Dr. Joanna Kotlarz, Paulina Borkiewicz, and Małgorzata Domin.

Expert voices

As part of the activities so far, the researchers have conducted quantitative and qualitative analyses, consultations with representatives of the film industry, and a strategic diagnosis of the current system.
The results presented in Gdynia represent another important voice in the discussion about the future of Polish cinema. The combination of perspectives from academics, practitioners, and decision-makers creates a real opportunity to develop effective solutions for the growth of the film sector.
